About Geothermal
Due to the spiraling costs of ever depleting fossil fuels, more sustainable and renewable sources
of energy are required. In most cases, the ground has the potential to provide renewable energy to
the heating system of a building.
In Ireland, outdoor air temperatures constantly fluctuate due to the changing seasons, however ground
temperatures below 60-80cm (the frost layer) remain relatively constant, between 11-13°Celsius, all
year round. This area is known as a geothermal reservoir, and, in Ireland's temperate climate, is much
easier to exploit than in a continental climate. A geothermal vertical loop system can collect this
energy and pass it to a heat pump in order to heat a building in the winter, and cool it in the summer.
egeplast Ireland Ltd. can now supply everything required to bring geothermal energy to a heat pump,
including geothermal vertical probes, installation accessories and connection pipe-work.
